As a part of Colorado’s Conflict Resolution Month, we will be showing the film Kundun, which is about Tibet’s 14th Dalai Lama. “Kundun” means “The Presence” and is how Tibetans refer to the Dalai Lama. The film shows his life from childhood into adulthood when he was forced to flee his home in Tibet when China invaded. A discussion will be held following this event. Continue reading

Drawing from Malcolm Gladwell’s thought provoking article “Small Change: Why the Revolution Will Not Be Tweeted” – New Yorker, 10.4.2010, and the work of social movement scholars such as Doug McAdam, Tchozewski asserts that robust activism is built not merely through tweets, Facebook chat, and other electronic communications methods but rather through solid organizing, deep social bonds and self-organizing networks predicated upon personal relationships and common ideologies that produce the fierce resolve necessary for fundamental social change. Coloradoʼs rapidly growing undocumented population is increasingly becoming a touchstone for political debate. Despite the serious consequences for immigrants and native-born populations alike, this debate often focuses on emotion and misinformation rather than the experiences of immigrant populations and the realities of immigration in our communities. This one-day workshop will bring together researchers with leaders in government, civil society, and business in interactive sessions that focus on:
(1) Challenges and misconceptions of immigrant populations and the immigration issue
(2) Setting a concrete agenda built on creative and collaborative ways to better address issues related to education, youth and families, labor, drugs, crime and violence. Continue reading

3CG’s Reinventing Governance Conference

The Reinventing Governance Conference brought together over 600 students and members of the public in pre-conference and conference activities. Fourteen different countries were represented, along with over twenty CU-Boulder departments and academics from CU-Denver and CU-Colorado Springs. Many participants from the University of Denver and Colorado State University, as well as from universities and organizations around the country and world, made valuable contributions as conference participants. Voices as diverse as the United Nations, the World Bank, Shell Oil, Aveda Corporation and over a hundred different organizations and community groups actively deliberated on critical governance issues of our time.
